Lost Herbs: Centaury

Lost Herbs: Centaury

Have you ever used Centaury aka Feverwort?
Centaury (Centaurium erythraea) is an annual herb that has been used for centuries as a detox and tonic. It is said that Centaury is a “blood purifier” by acting through the kidneys and liver. Spring is coming fast and this is a great time to help get your liver and kidneys “flowing freely” from being stagnant through winter. Short term use has found to increase gastric secretions which stimulates the appetite. This is a GREAT herb for those struggling to gain weight. Long term use can possibly balance stomach issues. Other traditional uses of Centaury include being an anti- inflammatory and fever buster.
Generally excepted as safe, there are no known (posted) contradictions or side effects at this time however if you are pregnant or nursing please gain advice from your doctor. As always before starting or stopping any new healthcare routine please consult a physician
